day - Introduction:
Arrival
at the Elmas airport of Cagliari at about midday. Transfer to
the City-Centre. Guided tour of Cagliari, main town of the Autonomous
Region of Sardinia: See the Roman Amphitheatre, walk through
the medieval "Castello" area, situated on the hill, that dominates
the Angel's gulf of Cagliari. The Castello quarter was fortified
by the Pisans in the 13th cent. and later strengthened by the
Spanish: the S. Pancratio and Elephant- towers, the "Cittadella
dei Musei", there is among others, the National Archaeological
Museum situated, then continue to the old market square and
to the Bastion S. Remy. If you don't want to walk you can book
a comfortable ride on the "Red-Blue" tourist train of Cagliari,
which passes through the old-city-centre of Cagliari.
Below the "Castello" area the "Marina" area is located, one
of the 4 ancient areas of Cagliari, which goes back to the Roman
era. Because of it's nearness to the harbour it was always inhabited
by "sea-men", fishermen and sailors who stayed there during
the landing of their boats. Still today many restaurants of
various price-categories can be found there. The "Marina" area
faces the famous Boulevard "via Roma" to the south, next to
the ferry harbour.
